  3. Application

    • Navigate a TracBack to retrace all or part of your current trip.
    • The Garmin TracBack feature can be helpful when:

      • Finding your way back to a trailhead
      • Finding your way back to a trail marker
      • Finding your way back to a previous trail junction
      • Finding your way back to an item left behind

      • Finding your way back to your car

2. Enabling TracBack

  1. For most Garmin navigators, the TracBack option is only available while an active tracklog recording is in progress.
  2. Some inReach devices save a hidden trip log to ensure TracBack is always available, even when tracking is disabled.
  3. The TracBack feature can not be used to navigate saved or archived activities and tracklogs.
  4. Tip: Always reset track and trip data at the starting point of each new activity recording.

4. TracBack vs Back to Start

  1. TracBack

    • Just as the name implies, TracBack means to follow your track backwards.
    • TracBack takes you back along the path you traveled.

      • TracBack swaps the start and finish points from the currently active tracklog or activity recording.
      • The tracklog or activity recording is then navigated from trackpoint to trackpoint in reverse order.
      • If a recording is not available, some devices can use a hidden tracklog to achieve similar results.

  2. Back to Start

    • Just as the name implies, Back to Start means to navigate back to your starting location.
    • Back to Start takes you back to the beginning of a recorded track or activity.
    • Back to Start may provide one or more of the following navigation options.

      • Direct: Navigate directly to the starting location in a straight line.
      • Route: Calculate a route back to the starting location based on the currently selected activity.
      • TracBack: Takes you back to the starting location along the path you traveled.
