Troubleshooting
- My eTrex
Touch 2 does not respond. How do I reset the device?
-
Press and hold
the (POWER) button for up to 60 seconds, and release upon reboot.
- Allow the
eTrex Touch 2 to cool if hot to the touch.
- How do I reset all settings back to factory defaults?
-
'Settings > System > Reset > Reset All Settings'.
- How do I Master Reset my eTrex Touch 2?
-
Power the eTrex Touch 2 off.
-
Press and hold the (POWER) button until
the left Status LED turns red.
-
Release the (POWER) button.
-
The eTrex Touch 2 is now in 'Boot Block' mode, which last about 8 seconds.
-
Quickly press and release the (POWER) button twice.
-
The Status LED will turn green, and the device will begin the boot
process.
-
A "Restoring settings and activities to defaults" message will be
displayed.
-
The eTrex Touch 2 is now clearing all data and restoring all settings to
factory defaults.
- How do I enable Forced Mass Storage Mode?
-
Power the eTrex Touch 2 off.
-
Press and hold the (POWER) button until
the left Status LED turns red.
-
Connect the USB data cable.
-
Wait for "USB MS Mode" to be displayed on the screen.
-
Release the (POWER) button.
-
The eTrex Touch 2 is now in Forced Mass Storage Mode.
- How do I clear Non Volatile Memory?
-
Power the eTrex Touch 2 off.
-
Connect the USB data cable.
-
Press and hold the (POWER) button until
the left Status LED turns red.
-
Immediately Release then
Press and hold the (POWER) button again.
-
Wait for tthe left Status LED to turn green.
-
Release the (POWER) button.
- My eTrex Touch 2 is not acquiring satellite signals.
-
Power your eTrex Touch 2 On.

Place the device outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for several minutes.
-
If no improvement >30 minutes,
from the Satellite page, select
'Menu > Satellite Setup > Satellite > Demo Mode' then 'Satellite > Auto
Select'.

Place the GPSr outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for several minutes.
-
If no improvement >30 minutes, perform Master Reset (above) and repeat.
- My eTrex Touch 2 will not charge.
-
Ensure the USB-C cable is inserted fully.
-
Reduce backlight brightness.
-
Ensure ambient temperature is between 32ºF and 113ºF (0ºC -
45ºC).
- My eTrex Touch 2 battery gauge is not accurate.
-
Leave the device powered on until the battery is completely discharged.
-
Charge the battery fully without interruption.
- The battery does not last very long.
-
Configure 'Settings > System > Satellite' to 'Auto
Select'.
-
Configure 'Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto Brightness' to 'On'.
-
Configure 'Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Timeout' to a lower
level.
-
Configure 'Settings > Display & Brightness > Backlight Timeout' to a lower
level.

Configure 'Settings > Data Recording > Record Method' to 'Smart'.

Configure 'Settings > System > Expedition Mode' to 'Auto' or 'Promted'.

Disable Wi-Fi and / or Bluetooth radios when not needed.
- How can I be sure my eTrex Touch 2 is in MTP Mode?
- While trying to load GCLive data, my eTrex
Touch 2 perpetually displays a spinning wheel on the screen and no data is
loaded.
- Verify your eTrex Touch 2 has a functional internet
connection via either
Bluetooth or
Wi-Fi.
- Check
'Settings > Geocaching > Geocaching Live' to verify the unit is registered
with a valid groundspeak account.
- Select
'Settings > Geocaching > Geocaching Live > Unregister' to unregister the
device.
- Select
'Settings > Geocaching > Register Device' and complete registration with
desired groundspeak account.
- I'm having trouble pairing my GPSr with my
smart phone via Garmin Connect or Explore.
- My eTrex Touch 2 keeps shutting down before
finishing the boot sequence.
