You may find the answers you need here before you contact Garmin.
Troubleshooting
- The screen does not respond. How do I reset the device?

Remove batteries.
-
Reinstall batteries.
-
Allow the Rino
6xx to cool if hot to the touch.

With the Rino 6xx powered off, press and hold
the call button and cycle the power button.

The Rino 6xx will begin the boot process.
-
When prompted "Erase all user data?",
release the call button.

Select [Erase].
- My Rino 6xx is not acquiring satellite signals
-
Power your Rino 6xx On.
-
Configure Setup > System > Satellite > Satellite
System = GPS.
-
Place the GPSr outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for several minutes.
-
If no improvement >30 minutes,
from the Satellite page, select
Menu > Use With GPS Off > Use With GPS On > AutoLocate Position.

If no improvement >30 minutes, perform Master Reset (above) and repeat.
- My Rino 6xx will not charge

Ensure the Li-ion battery pack is properly installed.
-
Reduce backlight brightness.
-
Ensure temperature is between 32ºF and 122ºF (0ºC - 50ºC).
- My Rino 6xx battery gauge is not accurate
-
Leave the device powered on until the battery is completely discharged.
-
Charge the battery fully without interruption.
-
Ensure
Setup > System > Battery Type is set correctly.
- The battery does not last very long
- How can I be sure my Rino 6xx is in USB Mass Storage Mode?
- My Rino 6xx is connected to a computer, but will not enter Mass Storage Mode
- I do not see any new removable drives in my list of drives

Windows may be having trouble assigning a drive letter.

Select My Computer > Manage > Disk Management to assign drive letters.

Make sure you have the latest Garmin drivers installed.

Enter Forced Mass Storage Mode.
-
When prompted by the Found New Hardware Wizard, select "No not at this time" followed by "Install USB drivers automatically".
-
Once the driver installation is complete, select "Finish".
-
The computer should now recognize the
Rino 6xx and installed microSD card as external storage drives.
- My Rino 6xx is not reading data from the
microSD card.
- My PC frequently displays "USB Device not recognized" when I connect my GPSr.
- My Rino 6xx will not communicate with older
Rino 1x0 and 5x0 models.

Verify your Rino 6xx Squelch Tone mode is not set
to DSC (Digital Coded Squelch).
-
Previous generation Rino 1x0 and 5x0 models do not
support DSC.

Configure your Rino 6xx Squelch Tone mode to CTCSS
(Continuous Tone Controlled Squelch System).
-
Your Rino 6xx should now be able to communicate
with the older Rino models.

Hidden Test Pages
- Hardware/Software ID and Display Test:
-
Remove micro SD card if present
-
Enter the Satellite application
-
Press and hold the upper left corner of the screen > 5 seconds
-
A diagnostic screen will appear displaying hardware and software information
-
Selecting the → button will cycle you to the next diagnostic screen
-
If the → button is not visible, touch the screen or press the power button to cycle to the next test
-
After the final test, the Rino 6xx will loop back to the original diagnostic screen
-
Press and hold the lower left corner of the second diagnostic screen (with the [Start] button in the center) to exit the diagnostic mode
-
Press and hold the power button to reboot the device and reset diagnostic mode test results
- Error Logs:
-
Enter the Trip Computer application
-
Press and hold the lower right corner of the screen (over the Menu Bar) > 5 seconds
-
A diagnostic screen will appear displaying a list of recently logged exceptions
-
The lower section of the page will display current memory usage and stats
-
Select an exception from the list to view register dumps for that exception
-
Use the back arrow to return to the list of exceptions and to exit this diagnostic mode
- While Simulating a Route:
-
Enter the Compass application
-
Press the 12 o'clock position to increase travel speed
-
Press the 6 o'clock position to reduce travel speed
-
Press the 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock positions to change route direction
