However, the device still didn't show up in my PC, which suggested that the problem was in my PC, rather than the GPS. I googled further, and came across this useful link which worked. The GPS unit was recognized in the Disk Management tool, but was not assigned a drive letter, so could not be displayed. Now that I've given it a drive letter, everything is fine, apart from having to set up the icons, shortcuts and profiles again. (As the device was not accessible before sending to Garmin, I couldn't back up all these settings. I shall do so as soon as everything's back in place!) Fortunately, all my caches and maps were on the SD card, so I was spared that restoration step. I have no idea what caused the problem in the first place - possibly a "Safe to Eject" app - but now I know how to fix it, and so do you! |

Worth keeping a copy of your profile folder from your Montana on your PC, just in case you need to master reset again in the future. |

I got a similar problem. Many times when I connect the device to my pc, it pops up "not recognized". And the device just start .If I unplug and plug in, suddenly the device is recognized. After a few seconds, sometimes, close again and the device start. Other days no problem. Same happens with other pc. This was not a problem when the device was new. |

Well you could try a master reset to see if that changes things back again |
