Need help troubleshooting your GPSMAP 64?

Troubleshooting
- The GPSMAP
64 does not respond. How do I reset the device?

Remove batteries.
-
Reinstall batteries.
-
Allow the
GPSMAP 64 to cool if hot to the touch.
- How do I reset all settings back to factory defaults?

Setup > Reset > Reset All Settings.
- How do I Hard Reset my GPSMAP 64?

Power the GPSMAP 64 off.
-
Press and hold the (Page) and (Enter) buttons
simultaneously.

Press and release the (Power) button.
-
The GPSMAP 64 will begin the boot process.
- Release the (Page) and (Enter) buttons after
backlight illuminates
- When prompted "Erase all user data?",
select [Erase] and press (Enter).
- My GPSMAP 64 is not acquiring satellite signals.

Power your GPSMAP 64 On.

Configure Setup > System > Satellite System = GPS.

Place the GPSr outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for several minutes.

If no improvement >30 minutes,
from the Satellite page, select
Menu > Use With GPS Off > Use With GPS On > AutoLocate Position.

If no improvement >30 minutes, perform Hard Reset (above) and repeat.
- My GPSMAP 64 will not charge.

Ensure the NiMH battery is properly installed.

Reduce backlight brightness.

Ensure temperature is between 32ºF and 122ºF (0ºC - 50ºC).
- My GPSMAP 64 battery gauge is not accurate.

Leave the device powered on until the battery is completely discharged.
-
Charge the battery fully without interruption.
-
Ensure
Setup > System > Battery Type is set correctly.
- The batteries do not last very long.
- How can I be sure my GPSMAP 64 is in USB Mass Storage Mode?
- My GPSMAP 64 is connected to a computer, but will not enter Mass Storage Mode.
- I do not see any new removable drives in my list of drives.

Windows may be having trouble assigning a drive letter.

Select My Computer > Manage > Disk Management to assign drive letters.
- Why does my computer not recognize my GPSMAP
64?

Make sure you have the latest
Garmin drivers installed.
-
Enter
Forced Mass Storage Mode.
-
When prompted by the Found New Hardware Wizard, select "No not at this time" followed by "Install USB drivers automatically".
-
Once the driver installation is complete, select "Finish".
-
The computer should now recognize the
GPSMAP 64 and installed microSD card as external storage drives.
- My GPSMAP 64 is not reading data from the
microSD card.
- My PC frequently displays "USB Device not recognized" when I connect my GPSr.
- I'm having trouble pairing my GPSr with my
smart phone via Garmin Connect or Explore.

- Hardware/Software ID and Display Test:

Hold (Enter) + (Power) to boot into diagnostic screen
- Press (Page) to Open next test screen
- Press (Quit) to Open previous test screen
- Press (Enter) to Activate test options

Hold (Power) to Exit Diagnostic
Menu
- Error Logs:

Open the
Trip Computer
page.
-
Press (Right) until final Trip Computer data page is
displayed.
-
Press (Up) > (Right) > (Down) > (Left).
-
A diagnostic screen will appear displaying a list of recently logged exceptions.
-
The lower section of the page will display current memory usage and stats.
-
Select an exception from the list to view register dumps for that exception.
-
Repeat (Up) > (Right) > (Down) > (Left) to enter the
Logging Control screen.
-
Press the (Quit) button to exit each diagnostic mode.
