Troubleshooting

• My eTrex 10 does not respond. How do I reset the device?
  • Remove batteries.
  • Reinstall batteries.
  • Allow the eTrex to cool if hot to the touch.

• How do I reset all settings back to factory defaults?
  • Setup > Reset > Reset All Settings.

• How do I Master Reset my eTrex 10?
  • hold [Menu] + [Thumb Stick] + cycle [Power] (erases all user data).

• My eTrex 10 is not acquiring satellite signals.
  • Power your eTrex 10 On.
  • Configure Setup > System > Satellite System = GPS.
  • Place the GPSr outside, in clear view of the sky, away from any obstructions, for several minutes.
  • If no improvement >30 minutes, from the Satellite page, select Menu > Use With GPS Off > Use With GPS On > AutoLocate Position.

  • If no improvement >30 minutes, perform Master Reset (above) and repeat.

• My eTrex 10 battery gauge is not accurate.
  • Leave the device powered on until the battery is completely discharged.
  • Charge the battery fully without interruption.
  • Ensure Setup > System > Battery Type is set correctly.

• The batteries do not last very long.

• How can I be sure my eTrex 10 is in USB Mass Storage Mode?
  • See Mass Storage Mode.

• My eTrex 10 is connected to a computer, but will not enter Mass Storage Mode.
  • See Forced Mass Storage Mode.

• I do not see any new removable drives in my list of drives.
  • Windows may be having trouble assigning a drive letter.
  • Select My Computer > Manage > Disk Management to assign drive letters.
  • Read this post.

• Why does my computer not recognize my eTrex 10?
  • Make sure you have the latest Garmin drivers installed.
  • Enter Forced Mass Storage Mode.
  • When prompted by the Found New Hardware Wizard, select "No not at this time" followed by "Install USB drivers automatically".
  • Once the driver installation is complete, select "Finish".
  • The computer should now recognize the eTrex 10 as an external storage drive.

• My PC frequently displays "USB Device not recognized" when I connect my GPSr.

Hidden Test Pages

• Hardware/Software ID and Display Test:
• With the device turned off, press and hold [Power] + [Thumb Stick]
  • [Power] = Cycles Backlight 50% > 100% > Off
  • [Back] = Cycles Diagnostic Screens

• Error Logs:
  • Open the Trip Computer page.
  • [Thumb Stick Up > Right > Down > Left]
    • [Thumb Stick Up/Down] = Select Desired Shutdown Log
    • [Enter] = Displays additional information when available
    • [Thumb Stick Up > Right > Down > Left] = Logging Control
    • [Back] = Exit Selected Test Mode
