Firmware Installation

Garmin Express

Firmware updates, map updates, device backups and other optional software improvements for your Garmin GPSr can all be managed with the Garmin Express application. Versions for both PC and Mac are available in Software.
  • Connect the GPSr via USB and enter Mass Storage Mode
  • Open the Garmin Express application and choose your device from the menu
  • Select desired updates and follow the prompts as directed to complete available updates

WebUpdater

The Garmin WebUpdater program can also find and install updates available for your Garmin GPSr. Versions for both PC and Mac are available in Software.
  • Connect your Garmin GPSr via USB and enter Mass Storage Mode
  • Drag and Drop the desired update file to the WebUpdater application, or
  • Run the WebUpdater application and select your device from the menu
  • Follow the prompts to keep your GPSr updated

Manual Update

Installing firmware older than the currently loaded version will reset all device settings to factory defaults. Installing firmware to a device other than that for which it is designed may render the device permanently inoperable. 
  • Connect your Garmin GPSr via USB and enter Mass Storage Mode
  • Download the desired firmware version for your device
  • Extract the *.gcd file from the *.zip archive
  • Copy the *.gcd file to [GPSr]\Garmin\*.gcd
  • Rename the *.gcd file to gupdate.gcd
  • Disconnect and reboot the GPSr
  • When prompted by the GPSr, select 'Yes' to install the update
  • Once the update has completed, the GPSr will restart and delete the gupdate.gcd file



eTrex 10 (1304) Firmware Update History

System Requirements:

  • IBM-compatible PC running Windows 2000 or later operating system and an available USB port.

Notes:

  • WARNING: If this software is uploaded to a device other than that for which it is designed, you will not be able to operate that device.
  • If attempts to upload software fail, you may need to return the device to Garmin for service.
