Recovery

• We recommended making a complete backup of the GPSMAP H1 before doing anything else with it.
• It is not difficult to accidentally delete and/or overwrite important system files and/or user data on the device.
• Having archived copies makes it easier to restore a recent device configuration should it become necessary.
• If the recovery methods below fail to restore proper device operation, perform a Master Reset and repeat.

Recovery Process

With Saved Archive

Press-and-hold the Power button until the device powers off. Connect the GPSMAP H1 to your computer via USB cable. If the GPSMAP H1 prompts "Use MTP (media transfer)?", select 'Yes' and press 'ENTER'. Wait for the GPSMAP H1 to enter MTP Mode. Create a temporary backup of all data on the GPSMAP H1. Delete the GPSMAP H1\Internal Storage\GARMIN\ directory Copy known good 'GARMIN' archive to the GPSMAP H1\Internal Storage\ directory. Disconnect the GPSMAP H1 from your computer. Press-and-release the Power button to power the GPSMAP H1 on. Test for proper device operation. Repeat as necessary. Once proper operation has been restored, create a new backup for future use.

Without Saved Archive

Press-and-hold the Power button until the device powers off. Connect the GPSMAP H1 to your computer via USB cable. If the GPSMAP H1 prompts "Use MTP (media transfer)?", select 'Yes' and press 'OK'. Wait for the GPSMAP H1 to enter MTP Mode. Create a temporary backup of all data on the GPSMAP H1. Remove any one recently added suspect file (*.gpx, *.fit, *.img, *.jnx, *.kmz, etc). Disconnect the GPSMAP H1 from your computer. Press-and-release the Power button to power the GPSMAP H1 on. Test for proper device operation. Repeat as necessary. Once proper operation has been restored, create a new backup for future use.
