eTrex Touch 2 & user photos

Unread post by WallyGator »

I have found that even though there is a "Photos" app on the unit and Garmin's Touch 2 user manual explains it's use, there is no documentation of where the photos need to reside on the unit (as far as I could find).

To use it, one needs to create a Photo or Photos folder (either one will work) within the GARMIN folder on the unit by connecting it to the PC or Mac. Mac users will need to use the "AndroidFileTransfer" app (or similar) to access the eTrex Touch 2's file system which only supports MTP & NOT USB Mass Storage.

Once this folder is created, one can copy JPG images to the folder and then view them using the "Photos" app. Note that as far as I have tested, only JPG images are usable/accessible from the Touch 2. BMP files (the default screenshot format used by the unit) are NOT supported. I have not tried other file formats.

Traditionally, Garmin Outdoor Handheld devices (and many others) have stored *.JPG & *.JPEG user photos/images not taken by an on board camera in the /Garmin/JPEG/ directory, as specified in the GarminDevice.xml file found in the Garmin directory. (this file can be viewed in any text editor)

This information is also available at GPSrChive > eTrex Touch 2 > Operation > Files & Folders.
