Re: Issue after update to 4.7: Garmin maps lost
Further to my post above, I've now tested a few more microSD cards with version 4.70:
Kingston 128 GB: not working (this card is OK with version 4.20)
Integral 128 GB: not working
Samsung 64 GB: not working
Samsung 32 GB: OK
(All cards are FAT32 formatted and work OK in my GPSmap 62sc)
So, from my limited testing, it appears that Garmin are now enforcing the 32 GB 'official' microSD card size limit on firmware 4.70.

Re: Issue after update to 4.7: Garmin maps lost
Hello everyone,
I can confirm that my 64GB (FAT32) card isn't recognized anymore with firmware 4.70, however it shows up when connected to a PC.
As I don't have a smaller card, I've created a <32GB partition, and it worked flawlessly. I've tried to find the size limit, that is apparently between 45000MB (works) and 45050MB (doesn't work). Partition created with diskpart and formatted with fat32format.
Unfortunately, other than limit the available maps storage space (that is not an issue in my case), it also prevents me to use the full capacity of the card in other devices or for generic storage.
While hoping for a bug, in my opinion the 'strange' value looks more a deliberate software limitation.

Re: Issue after update to 4.7: Garmin maps lost
Could reproduce the failure after update from 4.2 to 4.7:
No Garmin-Maps are available, not the integrated topo-maps, neither the bought map from Garmin "Topo Swiss 4.0" preinstalled on a 8 GB microSD.
system.xml
GarminDevice.xm
Update procedure: Using Garmin Express on Windows10.
...downgrading now again to 4.2

Well, that is a bummer.
My next suggestion would be to:
1. Return to v4.20
2. Remove microSD card
3. Remove all personal data and maps from GPSMAP 66 (save to HDD for later)
4. Update to v470
5. Verify proper device operation
6. Reload personal data and maps to GPSMAP 66 (removed in step 3)
7. Verify proper device operation
8. Install microSD card (removed in step 2)
9. Verify proper device operation
Report results here.

I did what you recommended. After Step 9 the device worked, but the preinstalled maps on the 8GB micro SD-Card (bought from Garmin) does not appear.gpsrchive wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 2:14 pm Well, that is a bummer.

Reconnected to Windows: Windows recommended to repair this drive (micro SD card). I did that. Rebooted GPS again, same behavior: the preinstalled map does are not recognized and not available.
@Garmin: I think you have to do. Me too: Installing 4.2 again to have this special map available I bought from you for mountain activites.

Re: Issue after update to 4.7: Garmin maps lost
Please, please: Test that in the next versions and also on other devices!
It's a "running gag" on Garmin firmware updates that errors appear again if they were fixed somewhen or other devices.
Again an update has cost me hours. I'm willing to support the community here, but Garmin should also take responsibility.
Thanks to gpsrchive providing this plattform here and - what I assume - providing a link to Garmin.
