Re: Montana 7x0 Firmware 5.30
Thank you for the link to the firmware version 5.30.
I acquired a Montana 700i on 19 August. It is the best GPS I have owned; I have been using Garmin GPS devices since 1999-2000.
Having used Garmin devices for many years, I am familiar with Garmin's early GPS releases being full of glitches. I am also aware that Garmin eventually fixes all or most of the glitches, so I acquired a Montana 700i.
There were ample glitches in the 700i, but it was fuctional, mostly.
I installed the 5.30 version of the firmware version earlier today. I then took the 700i on a spin around town. Firmware 5.30 is a great upgrade, that resolves many, if not all of the firmware glitches.
Thanks again for posting a link to the new firmware.

Is this update region specific? Garmin Express does not see an update for my 750i (in the Netherlands).

Garmin have been known to release new firmware in stages by region instead of globally, possibly to reduce the load on their servers. I suspect you will be seeing it soon.

Don’t load this release, if you are a Geocacher. The Geocaching App is constantly crashing as soon as you try to access the details of a cache. Looks like Garmin is back in the old software developer game...

We are not experiencing any issues with geocache data. How are you loading the geocache data to you device? Any more details about what you are experiencing?

No Geocaching problems at all on this side with 5.3.
I once had a corrupt GC-cache-database on the device that gave some similar troubles but this was easily solved by deleting user data.sqlite3 from \Garmin\SQL\

I had the same issue with two GPX loads in the previous version, using GSAK->gps via the garmin export macro. Native gpx export from gsak worked. Next load on the next trip worked so i blamed a transiently corrupt database.

Re: Montana 7x0 Firmware 5.30
Thanks for the hints. I will check my load process. I’m using iCaching to transfer Pocket Queries to the Garmin. Maybe something is not working in that setup. Although I have to say it worked with other Garmin devices.
I’m currently on a cache trip. I will check this when I’m back home.

It was in fact the database data.sqlite3 from \Garmin\SQL\ which got corrupted. Thanks for the hint!
