possible error and feature suggestion (kJ)
GPSMAP 66st 4.20, 2,80.
Hi.
I noted that on the Recording controls (and Recorded activities) on the information page, there is a value showing Calories.
Judging from the number it shows it seems to be kilo calories (kcal). The manual also refers to calories unfortunately.
As a suggestion; it would be great if it was possible to also select the unit to display kilo joules (kJ). Similar to that one can set up miles or kilometers, etc.
As a verification, if anyone uses the unit for running, if you run one hour, do you get a calorie value approx. 500-1000 or 500 000 to 1 000 000 ?

Do you have your user profile configured properly in Setup > Fitness?

Yes, user data is set up. But there is no option for showing energy usage in calories, kilo calories or kilo Joule.
The display writes that it shows calories, but it looks to be kilo calories.

We can not see what you are seeing unless you post some screen captures.
Some short trip testing on our GPSMAP 66 running current firmware appears to report reasonable calories. A 1.7mi 'hike' used between 110 and 141 calories, depending on how the user profile was configured:

Hi.
I don't think it is anything wrong with the calculation that the unit does.
What i mainly observe is that the heading for that data field shows Calories (just like on your screenshot), but in fact i am rather certain that the number given (110 and 141 in your screenshots) is in kilocalories (kcal), which is 1000 different. Even though i imagine most users don't worry about the difference, it is always good to have it correct.
The additional option (thanks for adding it) is more of a setting question for me. Showing kcal or kJ is just like selecting between km/h or miles/h in the unit when setting up how to show speed.

987, do the groceries found in stores near you location show calorie information on the package, or do they show kcal/kJ?

kJ and kcal. Often with kJ first.
----
after googling a bit:
What is the difference between calories and kilocalories?
The "calorie" we refer to in food is actually kilocalorie. One (1) kilocalorie is the same as one (1) Calorie (upper case C). A kilocalorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water one degree Celsius. Please visit USDA's Food Composition Laboratory for additional information.

i did not know this... same thing different name
