Gpsmap 66st Compass calibration failed Please try again
The compass calibration always fails on step one.
I tried it slow, i tried it fast, i tried it the same speed as shown in the animation.
Is there any trick to calibrate the compass or do i have to return the unit.
Hard reset to factory default did not solve the problem
3.10/2.60

I'm having the same issue with the 3rd step. I was never able to complete it.

Me too: Gpsmap 66st Compass calibration failed
I've the same issue: Compass needs to be calibrated (more often then my other Garmins). First steps fails, even I proceed carefully.
What helps with my device: Power off/power on and then immediately calibrating --> works.
I'm not satisfied with that behavior .
FW: 3.10/2.70.

I feel your pain. But, persevere, it'll happen. I have two Garmin GPSMAP GPSr's that are next to impossible to calibrate the compass on. One is the 66s and the other one is the 64sc which was/is much worse than any Garmin I own (and I have a lot of them). Just keep at it. Don't let it get you down. Try again tomorrow. You'll do it. Go slow, go fast. Go opposite rotation, stand on one leg, curse and swear and, hey, don't knock it, sometimes that helps, lol.

I just tried a few times and it failed on step 3 the first 2 times, but succeeded on the 3rd. I suspect the key to success is to keep the centre of the unit (its centre of gravity) in the same spot while you do each rotation.

g66. just watched your video. I would not calibrate it with the device near any foreign object, especially not placed on the hard surface as you illustrate in the video. I have better results just holding the unit out in front of me at arms length, as illustrated here.

I did try different speed, different position and different height
It is not funny to make a video with on hand and rotate a gps with the other hand
Anyway, as some other guys have problems - i will not return the unit - but pray to god to make a successful calibration. Or should i pray to garmin

It took me 4 tries to get it to calibrate.
On the 4th attempt I went out on my balcony and it worked the first time.
It seems I had to many things in my office causing problems.
Maybe to much metal or the laptop cause problems who knows......
But you have to do it like it tells you in the video not too slow or to fast.
