Automotive turn-by-turn and OSM maps?
Hiya all, just wondering if this thing works with OpenStreet or OpenTopoMaps + OpenTopoContours? I've been using the Extrex 32X for yonks, but I'd like the bigger display and faster chipset of this new one. However, I've heard that the only road maps that work with turn-by-turn are Garmin's City Navigator maps, which idk... I just can't stomach the price tbh. Anybody had a go at this?

For cars: OpenMapChest or AlternativasLibres
However by using them you will lose lane assistant, information about speed restrictions and literally everything except basic navigation.
Garmin City Navigator map is heavily outdated, not worth a penny.
To be honest, it is better to switch to TomTom for car navigation. Garmin (with some OSM map) is only good as a backup.

Ahh great, thanks for the reply. It was a similar situation with the Etrex 32X, no speed, no lane detection etc. I'm not too stressed about that, as long as it can get me down some dusty tracks to a walk or two. Cheers

The question is if it is worth to use handheld devices for car navigation ?
If you buy car mount + car charger alone, you will pay more than for used Garmin Drive 40, Garmin nuvi 760, etc
And the above devices include everything needed and are better tailored for car usage.
Of course you can also use third party OSM maps with them.
