Course Waypoints with Blue Pin icon are not displayed

Unread post by ConiKost »

I do wonder, if this a bug or not? If I do create a course, I can set custom icons for single waypoints. If I do set something different than the classic blue pin icon, it's being correctly shown on map, but every waypoint with using the blue pin stays invisible? Firmware 20.30. Any ideas for that?

The icons you see for custom waypoints are in fact actual waypoints stored on the device outside of the course file, correct?

Our testing just now indicates any waypoints stored outside of the Course file will be displayed regardless (based on map page settings).

Our testing just now also finds that each course point, regardless of icon chosen, will be displayed when choosing 'Direct Path', and none will be displayed other than the start and finish when choosing 'Roads and Trails'.

No. I just imported a simple GPX route onto device and converted it to a course. So all waypoints in the course are not stored as a custom waypoint.

That also doesn't sound right, why are the icons only shown in direct mode, but not 'Roads and Trails'?

Did you put a custom waypoint symbol named "Pin, blue.bmp" on your device (in the folder Garmin/CustomSymbols)?

No. Folder is empty.

Perhaps they are simulating the behavior of an automotive navigator?

Please share the GPX so we can test with it!

I have also observed the same strange behavior with courses containing course points. Although I use a GPSMAP 67 I strongly believe the code is shared between Montana 700 series and GPSMAP 67 series.

When you use “regular” course points (ie don’t modify the icon) they apparently are considered a shaping point for routing purposes (see here for source in this) and do not show as course point on the map. This could also explain why they show in Direct Path but not in Roads&Trails navigation. One can debate whether that’s a logical choice…

Also the Active Route page on my GPSMAP 67 shows non-sensical distance values (ie very large negative numbers) to each course point when in Direct Path mode and when the course is a round trip (or nearly a round trip). Does this also happen on the Montana?
Current: GPSMAP H1, inReach Mini 2 - Previous: GPSMAP 67, inReach Messenger, GPSMAP 66sr, Oregon 700, Dakota 20, Edge 1040, Edge 1030 Plus, Edge 1030, Edge 520 Plus, Edge 520
