If the destination waypoint already has elevation data included, this will be used, otherwise, DEM data will be used to determine elevation values.

I wrote earlier that I had indicated a point on the map, so the point could not contain (saved)
information about the altitude above sea level.
Let me remind you that the device only had a base map and a custom map,
the vertical distance to the target was correct, after removing the basemap,
the vertical distance to the target was not displayed.

There is a base map and a (own) map in the device, on the own map in Base Camp the altitude data is not displayed,
in the device I point to a point on the map and "Go", somehow (miraculously) in the Vert Dist to Dest field the data is displayed.

Maybe try explaining why vertical height data is displayed.

The test was carried out on a base map from the GPSMPA 67 device.
Picture 1 - only the base map in the device
Picture 2 - there was no map in the device
Spoiler
Data from the basemap.jpgData without a basemap.jpg
In the first case, the height data comes from the base map, the height is displayed, in the second case (without the base map) there is no height data.

In the device I currently have one map without DEM data and a base map,
the altitude is displayed in the Wert Dist to Des field.
When you click on the map, the height is provided in the information about the indicated point

The devices include a Worldvide DEM Basmap basemap, which contains altitude data.

Additionally, the Garmin DEM Map is installed with the TopoActive Map.

You have provided the same information four times now in a thread with fewer than 20 posts (not counting yours).

I think most readers have got the point!

In case anyone missed it, the Garmin Basemap does contain some rudimentary Elevation data.

Dedicated DEM (Digital Elevation Model) maps provide much more detailed and accurate Elevation information.
GPSrChive wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2024 8:20 pm The World Wide basemap is only a fraction of the size of the regional DEM maps that cover much smaller areas (46 MB vs 3.53 GB).
Dedicated DEM maps are far more detailed and accurate than the WW Basemap.
And then there are the HDEM maps (>8 GB), which require several gigabytes just to cover a small portion of a DEM map region....
