Geocaches
Geocaching is a recreational activity in which participants hide or search for hidden caches.
- Each geocache contains coordinates, hints, logs, and other information
about the cache.

Geocaches can be imported into BaseCamp in GPX
format only.

BaseCamp does not currently recognize GGZ format geocache files.

Geocaches are identified in BaseCamp with one of two symbols:

Unfound.
-
Found.
Search for Geocaches
- You can search directly within BaseCamp for geocaches hosted at OpenCaching.com.

Searching for geocaches requires an active internet connection.

In the Find field of the Find toolbar, select Geocaches.

Select the search area:
-
Type or select a city name in the near field to search near a city.

Select Center of Map to search near the center of the map.
-
Select Center of Selection to search near the selected item in the Library and Devices area.

Enter a search term in the containing field (optional).
-
Click .
-
Search results appear in the Search Complete window.

Click an item in the Search Complete window.
-
An information balloon appears on the map, showing the geocache.
-
Click the hyperlink in the information balloon to view the geocache in the default web browser.

Select an option at the bottom of the Search Complete window:

Save the selected item as a
waypoint.
-

Zoom in and center the map on the selected item.
-
-
Print a map of the area around the selected item.
-
To save the geocache search, click at the bottom of the Search Complete window.

The search is saved as an item in the Library and Devices area (click the search to view the results).
-
To refresh a saved search, right-click the search in the Library and Devices area, and select Refresh Search Results.
Mark Geocache Found
- Track your logged geocaches by marking them as found.

When a geocache is marked as found, the icon changes
from
to
.

If you mark a geocache as found on your device, the geocache status will be updated automatically in BaseCamp the next time you connect your device.
View Hints and Logs
- A hint may be included by the creator of the geocache to provide additional information to help you find the geocache.

Geocache logs contain comments by other people who have searched for the cache.

Double-click a geocache.

Select an option:

If additional hints appear in the Properties tab, to view the hints, select Decrypt.

To view the logs, select Cache Logs.
Copy Geocache
Drag and Drop any geocache(s) within BaseCamp to the desired List, or:

Right-click a geocache.

Choose Copy

Choose the target List.
-
Select OK.
Delete Geocache
- When you delete a geocache from the BaseCamp Library, the geocache is deleted from all lists and from My Collection.

When you delete a geocache on a connected device, the geocache is removed from the device.

To remove a geocache from a list without deleting the geocache, see
Remove Item from List.

Locate the data you wish to delete in My Collection or Devices.

Select the item(s) you want to delete.

Right-click and select Delete.

Option 2

Locate the data you wish to delete in My Collection or Devices.

Select the item(s) you want to delete.

Click Edit > Delete.
Import Geocache
Drag and Drop any geocache(s) from your computer to the desired List, or:

In the Library and Devices pane, select the location into which you want to import data (If you do not select a destination for the imported data, it is imported into the Unlisted Data folder).

Click File > Import.

Select a supported file, and click Open.
Export Geocache
Exporting geocaches from BaseCamp to a Garmin GPSr
may result in

Drag and Drop any geocache(s) to the desired device, or:

Choose Send To...

Choose the target device.

Select OK.

Upload Your Geocaches
- Upload geocaches you own directly to OpenCaching.com (requires an OpenCaching.com account).

You can convert waypoints and geocaches from other hosts into an OpenCaching geocache to allow other OpenCaching users to view and search for your geocache.

Do not upload geocaches you do not own.

Right-click a waypoint or a geocache, and select Convert to OpenCaching.com Cache.

Select the check boxes to confirm that your geocache meets each requirement.

If you are uploading a geocache that is listed on another website, select the check box, and enter the existing geocache code.

Select Next.

Enter the cache name, cache type, and rating information, and select Next.

Enter the description, hint, and tags, and select Publish.

Enter your username and password, and select Sign in.

Follow the on-screen instructions.
View Geocache on Web
- You can view any geocache in the default browser on the web page where it was originally posted.

Double-click a geocache.

Select the geocache ID.
Geocache Display Options
- Double-click a geocache.

From the drop-down list, select Symbol, Symbol and Name, or Symbol and Code.
