  1. What is a Preset Message?

    Preset messages are a convenient way of sending quick messages to a predefined group of family and friends from your inReach device. What a Preset message says and who the message is sent to is determined ahead of time on your inReach account and cannot be edited or changed on your inReach device.


     
  2. How many Preset Messages can I have?

    inReach accounts created before September 27, 2022 are limited to 3 Preset messages that can be edited at any time. inReach accounts created after this date will use Check-In messages.


     
  3. How do I edit or add location to Preset Messages?

    • Log in at Garmin Explore. (You must log in to the online account assigned to the inReach unit you want to edit messages for. If your device is active on an account with multiple inReach users, make sure to log in to the correct account for the desired device.)
    • Select the Messages tab at the top of the page
    • Select Edit next to the Preset message to be changed
    • Enter the text of your Preset message in the first available field. (Note: Preset messages are limited to 160 characters)
    • Enter e-mail addresses, phone numbers (country codes is required), or inReach addresses for desired recipients into the next available field, separating each address or number with a comma.
    • If desired, select the MapShare checkbox to send your preset messages to the MapShare. (Note: This option only appears if you have enable MapShare the Social tab of your account)
    • Select Done
    • You must now perform a Sync operation with your inReach device to update the Preset messages on the device.
    • Repeat this process for each Preset message you wish to edit.


     
  4. How do I send Preset Messages?

  5. What contact options can I send a Preset Message to? Can I send Social messages using the Preset Messages?

    Preset messages can be sent to phone numbers, email addresses and other inReach devices. Yes, you can send to Facebook, Twitter and MapShare using Preset Messages at no additional cost.


     
  6. I edited my Preset Messages on my online account. Why do my edited preset messages not appear on my inReach Messenger Plus?

    An inReach Messenger Plus must be Synced for new Preset Message details to display on the inReach device.


     
  7. My plan says I have unlimited Preset Messages. Do Preset Messages count against my monthly message allotment?

    All inReach Freedom Plans and inReach Annual Plans include unlimited Preset messages. Preset messages do not count against the monthly message allotment for these plans. Exceptions to this are the inReach Enterprise plans and the old, retired inReach Safety Plan.


     
  8. Do replies to my Preset Messages count against my monthly message allotment?

    Yes, any message sent back to your inReach device, including replies to preset messages, count against your monthly message allotment.


     
  9. Can I send Preset Messages from the Messenger app?

    Yes, preset messages can be sent from the Messenger app.
