Features

Check-In Messages
You can send these messages to preselected recipients to let them know your status for a quick check-in. You cannot change the check-in message language. This convenient preloaded text format does not count towards your allotted text messages on your plan.
Quick Text Messages
These short, customized text blocks help you save time when composing a message. You can create up to 20 custom quick texts and store them on your inReach device. Then, just select the appropriate message and the recipient(s) you want to contact.
Custom Messages
These are messages that you compose with your own words right before sending. There is a 1600 character limit. If your message exceeds that, it will be split up and sent in multiple messages.
Voice Messages
Record and send 30 second voice messages with the Garmin Messenger app on your compatible smartphone.
Photos
Use the Garmin Messenger app on your compatible smartphone to send photos.
Location Tracking
Track your trip, share your location, or retrace your steps back to camp.

You can use the tracking feature on your inReach device to record track points and transmit them over the Iridium satellite network at a specified send interval. With the tracking function activated on your inReach device, you can bring peace of mind to family and friends by enabling them to follow your journey via your web-based MapShare page.

MapShare is an inReach feature that gives your friends and family a means to follow your trek’s progress on an internet browser-accessible map, ping the location of your inReach device and send you messages. You can use settings and filters to update trip information, set viewer controls and manage the data that displays on your MapShare page. You can also set up password protection to limit who can access your MapShare page, share your MapShare link with others before or during your trip or embed your MapShare page on a blog, website or social media.
Weather Forecast
Request and receive detailed weather forecasts on your inReach device or through a paired companion smartphone app so you’ll know what conditions to expect. There are multiple types of weather forecasts you can get - including basic, extended or marine weather forecasts. You can request weather forecasts for your current location or any other waypoint or destination on your itinerary.
Interactive SOS
The SOS button on your inReach device can make all the difference in an emergency scenario. You can trigger an SOS alert on your device - even from remote locations - and get prompt contact from Garmin Response, our professional 24/7-staffed emergency response coordination center. Trained team members are standing by to respond to your SOS, track your device and notify proper authorities and emergency responders in your area. Then, while help is on the way, the Garmin Response team will in most cases continue to text back and forth with you, providing updates and critical information until help arrives or you no longer need assistance.
