What is NavIC?
NavIC (

Also known as 'nāvik' in Indian languages, meaning 'sailor' or 'navigator'.
NavIC is a regional satellite navigation system covering all of India and the surrounding area within 1500km of the border.
NavIC Operation
NavIC consists of seven satellites and a network of ground stations.
Satellite constellation:
Four satellites are in inclined geosynchronous oribts (IGSO).
Three satellites are in geostationary orbit (GEO).
Provides positioning signals across two frequency bands (L5, S):
L5 Signal: 1176.450 MHz
S Signal: 2498.028 MHz
Ground stations include:
IRNSS Spacecraft Control Facility (IRSCF).
ISRO Navigation Centre (INC).
IRNSS Range and Integrity Monitoring Stations (IRIMS).
IRNSS Network Timing Centre (IRNWT).
IRNSS CDMA Ranging Stations (IRCDR).
Laser Ranging Stations.
IRNSS Data Communication Network (IRDCN).
NavIC Services
NavIC currently offers the following services:
Standard Position Service (SPS) - Intended for civillian use.
Restricted Service (RS) - Intended for strategic users (military).
SPS and RS services are provided in the L5 and S bands.
Positional accuracy < 20m and timing accuracy < 50ns.
Fully interoperable with GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.
NavIC Coverage
NavIC employs a combination of satellites in GEO and IGSO orbits to provide regional coverage in and around India.

More
modern GPS receivers (GPSr) are becoming capable of receiving NavIC satellite signals.
NavIC-based vehicle tracking systems were made compulsory for all commercial vehicles in India as of April 1, 2019.
