city laws regarding the use of radio communication products before using
the radio.
- Certain frequencies may be illegal to use
in the state or country where you intend to use the radio.
- Using the radio in a prohibited location
may result in the device being inoperable until it is moved to an
authorized location.
- It is the responsibility of the user of
the Group Ride Radio to know the specific regulations for their
state/country.
Radio Frequencies
- MURS
- The Group Ride Radio operates within
Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) frequencies.
- MURS is a private, two-way short-distance voice
and data radio communications service.
- This service operates on five VHF channels in
the 151 - 154 MHz spectrum range.
- MURS users must cooperate in using the five
channels to reduce interference to other users.
- No user has priority over any other user, but
all users must yield to emergency communications.
- The usable range between two radios
can vary depending on antenna height, terrain and weather.
- Maximum allowable output power for any MURS
radio is two watts.
- Preset Channels

following five channels/frequencies:

- Apply commonly used squelch tones/codes
(see below) to each custom channel for quick and easy access in the
field.
- Manual Mode
- Allows the operator to manually configure
the channel and squelch tone/code combination as desired.
- Squelch
- Open Squelch
- Select a value from 0 to 12 to reduce unwanted static noise (0 = Off, 12 = maximum)
- Squelch Tones/Codes
- Squelch tones/codes allow you to mute other users on the same channel so you hear only the radios you
want to hear.
- Squelch tones/codes do not make your
conversation private (anyone on the same channel can still hear your
conversation).
- Calls on the same channel that are
not using
the same squelch code or squelch tone will be ignored.
- The Group Ride Radio supports the following squelch
tone/code systems:
- Licensing
- Operating on MURS frequencies is subject
to the rules specified in
47 C.F.R. Part 95 Subpart J.
- MURS is licensed by rule, meaning an
individual license is not required to operate a MURS radio.
- A station identification announcement is
not required when transmitting over MURS frequencies.
- A MURS transmitter may be operated in
locations where the FCC regulates radio communications.
- There are no age restrictions regarding
who may operate a MURS transmitter.
