FAQ

F1.) What wireless fitness sensors are supported by the Garmin Oregon?

The Oregon supports a speed and cadence sensor for cycling and a heart rate monitor. Note that the Oregon will only make use of the cadence sensor in the speed and cadence sensor. In order to display speed the Oregon must be moving and have satellite lock. This means that the Oregon will not display speed if used on a stationary trainer when using this sensor.

F2.) Will the heart rate monitor and bike sensor work simultaneously on the Garmin Oregon?

Yes. You can enable each receiver on the Oregon, pair each sender (chest strap for HRM and the sensor that mounts on the chain stay for speed and cadence sensor) with the Oregon and the Oregon will display data for both sensors.

F3.) How does the Garmin Oregon make the sensor data available to the user?

The Oregon shows the sensor data in the configurable data fields on the map, compass and odometer page. The Cadence and Heart Rate data fields show instantaneous data from each of the sensors. There is no page on the Oregon which graphs the sensor data or allows you to view the history.

The Oregon also saves the sensor data in the tracklog (current.gpx) so that it can be analyzed by various programs that run on your computer.

F4.) Do Garmin Connect, MotionBased or Training Center support the Garmin Oregon?

Now that 99% of MotionBased activities have been migrated to Garmin Connect Oregon support has been added.
You can upload tracks with the Garmin Communicator plug-in or upload GPX-files manually.

MotionBased no longer accepts uploads or any changes to the site.

F5.) Is there any software which will allow me to view the cadence data captured by my Garmin Oregon?

Trailrunner (Mac-only) TCX Converter (Mac, Windows, Linux), and TopoFusion reportedly will display cadence data imported from the Oregon. Use the gpx file directly from the Oregon, do not bring the gpx file through Mapsource or any other tool which may strip off the cadence data.

F6.) Is there any software which will allow me to view the heart rate data captured by my Garmin Oregon?

TCX Converter (Mac, Windows, Linux), TopoFusion and SportTracks will display heart rate data imported from the Oregon. TCX converter can also be used to covert the Oregon gpx file with heart rate data into a TCX file which can be analyzed in Garmin Training Center. Use the gpx file directly from the Oregon, do not bring the gpx file through Mapsource or any other tool which may strip off the HRM data.

F7.) I've uploaded my tracklog from the Garmin Oregon but I am not seeing the sensor data. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure you are uploading current.gpx (which contains your tracklog) directly from the Oregon. Don't use Mapsource or any other third party tool to resave this file. Many tools (i.e. Mapsource, ExpertGPS) strip out the trackpoint extensions that contain the sensor data.

F8.) Why doesn't my Polar heart rate monitor work when I'm using my Garmin Oregon?

Several users have complained that the Oregon and some Polar watch/monitors cannot be placed too close to each other or the Polar monitor will not pick up wireless cadence and heart rate information.
