USB Device has Malfunctioned - FIXED In the 11 months since I've had my Oregon 650 it has consistently had problems when connecting to my PC. About 2 times out of 3 the PC (XP) would show the "USB Device not Recognized" balloon and require disconnecting and reconnecting. Sometimes just using a different USB port would fix the problem.

I recently discovered a utility called USBdeview which not only shows the current state of USB devices - it shows every USB device you ever connected to your machine! I discovered there were GPS devices (and all sorts of other things) that I haven't owned for years in there. I cleaned out (actually Uninstalled in USBdeview's terms) all the things I know I'll never reconnect, plus I removed ALL the Garmin devices. Next time I plugged in the 650, it installed the correct drivers, and it's been 100% successful at connecting ever since (ok, at least for 3 days). I wouldn't advocate doing this unless you know what you're doing, but really, it is fairly straightforward.

A happy bunny :)

I meant to add, this solution is probably only really relevant if, like me, you've had a constant stream of different Garmin devices connected to your PC. In my case it was 2 x 650s, 2 x Oregon 300s, a Colorado and a couple of Nuvis.

Thank you skicat! I have the same issues with several of my Pc's, and I frequently have to try different USB ports to get my devices to properly connect. This looks like a great solution, and I will add it to the FAQ page later today.
