I've created my own POI with an custom 24x24 pix BMP-Icon. This .csv and .bmp can be loaded with Garmins POI-Loader.
This worked perfect for years now with the 60CSx and the OREGON.
On the Montana the transfer is confirmed and the POI-data are correct on the device, but the Icon its displayed wrong ("scrambled"). I tried with an 256x256 bmp and a 24 x24 png with the same result: Icon is displayed scrambled.

Any idea what is the correct POI icon format for the Montana?

Which firmware are you running?

Sounds exactly like Bug 09.

Actually tried with 4.02beta
But also happened with earlier versions.

I'm using the same 256 color, 16x16 pixel icons that I use in my 76csx and 78s. I tried using 24x24 pixels in the Montana but found that they took up took much screen real estate. It also meant that I had to keep 2 sets of icons and that was a hassle when it came time to send all my Custom POI to the Montana and the 76csx/78s. I am a firm believer in the KISS princple.

Forgot to add that I'm still running v3.90 firmware.

Anyone happen to know if there is a way to change the icon for a whole batch of custom POIs in one shot?

@Emoto, I am only aware of doing so with macro's in GSAK, but the Montana still does not properly render POI icons, as noted in Bug 09.
