Firmware
Warnings
- Be sure to backup all data like routes,
waypoints and tracks with MapSource before updating the software. Once the
geko has been updated you can use MapSource again to restore your
data.
- Uploading software versions older than what is
currently in your geko can cause all stored data to be erased.
- If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit
other than the product for which it is designed, you will not be able to
operate that unit.
- If the upload software fails, verify that you
have good batteries installed and try again. If repeated upload attempts
fail, you may need to return the unit to Garmin for service.
WebUpdater
The Garmin WebUpdater program can also find and install updates available
for your Garmin geko. Versions for both PC and Mac are available in
Software.
- Connect your geko to a free serial port
(Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC using a serial interface cable.

Run the WebUpdater application and select your device from the menu

Follow the prompts to keep your geko updated
Manual Installation
- Download the appropriate self-extracting
archive file for your geko onto your hard drive.
- Unzip the files in the archive by running the
downloaded executable file.
- Connect your geko to a free serial port
(Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC using a serial interface cable.
- Turn on your geko and ensure the Format
is set to "Garmin". You can find this setting by selecting "Setup" from the
main menu, then selecting "Interface" from the setup page.
- Change to the directory in which you unzipped
the files, (i.e., C:\Garmin), and run the update program, updater.exe.
Select the appropriate serial port and click "OK" to begin the software
upload.
- During the upload, the geko's display
will indicate the software is loading. The upload process should take 1-5
minutes to complete. When the upload is completed, the geko will
reset itself and turn on normally.
geko 101 Firmware History
- The geko 101 does not have the ability
to interface with another device and therefore the firmware can not be
updated in the field.
geko 201 Firmware (B0248) Update History
Changes made from version 2.70 to 2.90:
- Fixed issue with incorrect year being
displayed.

- Updated software to support manufacturing.
Changes made from version 2.40 to 2.50:
- Corrected potential shutdown when navigating a
route with points sufficiently close to one another.

setup on at the start of every power cycle.

select a saved track from the Track List Page, then
select 'SHOW MAP' from the pop-up list. Area units are
configurable. To configure, highlight the area units
label, press OK, and select new units from the pop-up
list.
- Corrected problem that
could potentially cause a saved track to include track
segments not chosen or withhold track segments chosen
during the track-saving process.
