  • Power on the Foretrex 301/401.
  • Cycle the Page key until the Settings page is displayed.
  • Select Setup and press the Enter key.
  • Select "ABOUT FORETREX" and press the Enter key.
  • The current firmware version will be displayed.
  • Press the Enter key to exit.
 
 
Firmware Installation
    Garmin Express

      Device updates for your Foretrex 301/401 are managed with the Garmin Express computer application.

      • Connect the Foretrex 301/401 to your computer using a suitable USB cable.
      • Open the Garmin Express application and choose your device from the menu.
      • Select desired updates and follow the prompts as directed to complete installation.
    WebUpdater

      Device updates for your Foretrex 301/401 can also be installed using the Garmin WebUpdater computer application.

      • Connect the Foretrex 301/401 to your computer using a suitable USB cable.
      • Drag and Drop the desired update file to the WebUpdater application, or
      • Run the WebUpdater application and select your device from the drop down menu.
      • Follow the prompts as directed to complete available updates.
    Manual Updates

    • Download and extract the desired *.GCD firmware update.
    • Rename *.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD.
    • Connect the Foretrex 301/401 to your computer and enter Mass Storage Mode.
    • Copy GUPDATE.GCD to [GPSr]\Garmin\GUPDATE.GCD.
    • Disconnect and reboot the Foretrex 301/401.

  • Fixed two Norths being displayed on the compass when the language is set to Polish.
  • Fixed possible shutdown on timer setup when the language is set to German.
  • ability to modify North Reference when set to User.
  • Improved calculations for total ascent/descent.
Changes made from version 2.30 to 2.40:
  • Waypoints now store the date and timestamp when the waypoint is saved.
  • Fixed issue with the user datum.

  • Added ability to manually set the UTC offset.
  • Added ability to import heartrate and cadence information with track data.
  • Fixed user grid datum to use custom grid settings.

  • Fixed excessive startup time when numerous tracks are loaded into the unit.
  • Improved behavior of the time field when it is added to the compass page.
  • Removed data fields from Foretrex 301 that require an altimeter.
  • Fixed improper drawing of routing lines when navigating to a point or along a route.
  • Corrected an issue when editing the position of a waypoint.
