Well this took 5 hours to install.
D4713070A.img Size 1.122.784 (was gmapdem.img now new name)
gmapprom1.img Size 3.551.296
D6185090A.img Size 3.066.176

Good thing I had an SD card installed. It copied the D6185090A.img to it via Garmin Express.
After it was complete I removed the 22x from the Laptop.
Start it up and it would not get past loading maps
It finally loaded after 5 mins, I checked the maps and only the North maps gmapprom1.img was there to see.
Then re connect it to the Laptop.
I then check with JaVaWa Device Manager it failed to load the maps.
I then copied the D6185090A.img from the SD card to the Laptop and deleted it from the SD card.
Ran JaVaWa Device Manager again and the IMG's on the 22x loaded.
I then copied the D6185090A.img to a new SD card to check it again.
No luck the JaVaWa Device Manager could not read the IMG file.
This SD card was not in the 22x but on the Laptop to check the map.
It appears to be corrupted.
So I removed all the IMG files and put back v2020.10 and all is working again.
I will not try to update v2020.20 again it took way to long to install and at the end D6185090A.img was corrupted
Plus if I had not an SD card install I would not of had any space left. They made this version 2020.20 why to big.
Do not know why they changed the name of gmapdem.img to D4713070A.img

We just installed that same map update yesterday on an eTrex Touch, and did not suffer any issues. Our device restarts correctly, and all maps are available.

Yes, the map update size exceeds available device storage space (this is an issue for any Garmin GPSr with 8GB or less internal memory) and the same map was also installed on our microSD card.

Which firmware version is your eTrex 22x running?

Version 2.60.

Probably a server issue.

What result do you see if you load it into GMAPtool and select 'Details'?


You could try again. You will only have to wait for that one single map.....

As a side note, but on the topic for the TopoActive Europe v2020.20. (i updated on a GPSMAP 66st and it went fine).
The map data is more than 5 months old it seems. I checked a few additions i have made within Sweden to OSM. New roads and road names added 4-5 months back are still not on the map. I was not able to check and verify earlier data, so i don't know exactly where the cut off time is.
Seems strange that they did not update the map data, even on a low end machine downloading and compiling the entire europe in sections would take around 1 day, perhaps 2 if very slow machine.

If only it were that simple. It is not.

The Garmin TopoActive maps are not pure OSM data, but a combination of OSM and Garmin data, which requires much more time to compile while ensuring data added from Garmin databases does not remain in 'duplicate' from the OSM data source. Literally tens of millions of data points must be compared and corrected or updated.

TopoActive maps are not just a direct download and compiled set of OSM mapping. If they were, they would offer no advantage over simply downloading OSM maps instead.
