Create a course in Basecamp and just send it to your connected eTrex Touch 2.

For existing courses that you have in your “Garmin Connect” website, first open Garmin Connect.
1. Click = Training and Planning
2. Click = Courses
3. Click on and open the course you want
4. In course details, scroll to the bottom where it says send to device, look to the right side for three dots
5. Click on the three dots
6. Select “Download GPX file”
7. Open Basecamp and connect Etrex Touch 2
8. Click on the “File” tab
9. Click on the second line down which is: Import into “My Collection”…
10. From the Download folder select the GPX file
11. Click open, and the course is put in the basecamps collection
12. Highlight and then hit the send to device button

I'm a beginner with base camp so just learning the in's and out's.

Courses can only exist in FIT or TCX files. A GPX file can contain routes, tracks and/or waypoints, but not courses. When you export a course to a GPX file with Garmin Connect, it is turned into a track.
Also course support in BaseCamp is limited: it can read course files, but will turn them into tracks. BaseCamp can save a track to a TCX file, but only when the track contains timestamps and it will be saved as an activity, not as a course.

The proper way to get a course into your device would be synchronizing the eTrex Touch 2 wirelessly with the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone.

I have Garmin Connect app on my phone and the Garmin Explore app.
I am hoping the Explore app doesn't bugger up my Garmin watch or the Garmin Connect app

In our experience, the Garmin Explore app frequently does just this.

To provide a different view: in my experience the Explore app works fine, as long as you remember it’s a three way sync between the device, Explore app and Explore web. So if you delete an item in one of those three, that item is deleted on the other two as well.
