Firmware 4.60

Garmin very kindly replaced my 65s due to the toggle button finish wearing. Brand new 65s unit just arrived today and it has Firmware 4.60 on? Never knew this available, I can't find anything online relating to 4.60, only 4.50?

When new devices are supplied with newer firmware not released to the public, it can indicate a hardware change.

Please send a copy of the GarminDevice.xml file from the Garmin directory on your new GPSMAP 65 to the address below:

Connect your GPSMAP 65 to your computer with a USB cable, and once Mass Storage Mode is enabled, open the Garmin Folder and find the GarminDevice.xml file, then copy and send to us via email.

Thanks, just copied the said file to email and sent it to your address. Let me know when you get it and what you find with it over firmware 4.50. As I'm really interested to know the difference.

The firmware part number has not changed, indicating there are no significant hardware changes to the device.

As Garmin have not published an update for the current v4.50 firmware release, it is reasonable to assume your replacement GPSMAP 65s with v4.60 is functionally identical to the GPSMAP 65s v4.50 you had replaced.

Wonder why they've called it 4.60 though.

It had 2020.10 Topo maps on which I've updated to 2023 yesterday.

Is there a way I can save the current firmware 4.60 of my device so I can revert back to 4.50 to see if any differences and then put 4.60 back on if there is?

As I understand previous firmware updates can be downloaded and installed off this site?

Some Garmin navigators do keep a copy of the current firmware that can be copied to an external drive, but the GPSMAP 65 is not one of them.

I do not recommend trying to install firmware version 4.50 'just to see what happens'. You may not be happy with the result.
