Acquiring Satellites

Unread post by RickN55 »

Does anyone else with the 65s ever have the issue of switching on and it not picking up Satellites and just says "Acquiring Satellites" and then when it does pick them up usually it will just be a few GPS and a few Galileo or Glonass. Most of the time if I plug it into Express it sorts itself out but lately it's not.

Any one else with this issue?

Is the GPSMAP 65 CPE.BIN file current or outdated when this happens?

How do I check on the 65s? I know how to on the 67 on the software info bit but the 65 doesn't say anything about it on there. It's just done again when I tried to turn it on. I was going to sell i ton eBay because I now have the 67 but scared to sell incase it does it for the new owner and I get a return against me.

You will have to check the \Garmin\GPS\CPE.BIN file creation date while it is connected to a computer.

See GPSMAP 65 > Operation > Files & Folders > Common Files > CPE.BIN.

Turned on today, did the acquiring satellites and took ages to get a fix, eventually goes to six feet but only picks up GPS and Glonass. Or sometimes only GPS or Galileo. Long story short when it does it, it only picks up two Sats.

It was 8th Sept 2023. It has been synced with express and works ok now. Just a pain it does this so often my 67 as never done it.

Is your GPSMAP 65 connected to the Explore app or Connect app via Bluetooth? The CPE file can also be updated via this connection.

The GPSMAP 67 can update the CPE file also via Wi-Fi, an option the GPSMAP 65 is not equipped with.

If your GPSMAP 65 is not connected to one of these apps via Bluetooth, you will have to connect it to a PC/Mac and sync via Express every 3-4 days to keep the CPE file current.

No, I haven't got it connected because having that and the 67 connected it kept duplicating all my way points (marks) on each device which was annoying.

There is your answer.

Either connect via Bluetooth, or connect manually via USB and sync with Garmin Express every 3-4 days to keep the CPE.BIN file current.
