If I save/archive and then clear each day's current track would that free up space in storage?

Collecting data in a smartphone should not be complicated, in the receiver I suggest setting archiving Daily,
from time to time you connect the device to the smartphone and copy the Archive directory.

You can delete archived traces from the device options.

In the next session you will do it again, the copied archive directory will overwrite the existing archive
directory on your smartphone.

Pay attention to the Omput Format setting, choose one saving format.
