Track recording is interrupted.

Unread post by tonamigon »

Hello from Japan.

Track recording is often interrupted.
The red in the attached image is the track recorded by GPSMap66sr and the blue is recorded at the same time by my smartphone.

Output Format is set to FIT, but the behavior did not change when I set it to GPX. The firmware is Ver. 5.50.
I also attach the settings of "Recording". The number of points of the track recorded this day was about 6000.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you very much.

Can you also share the FIT/GPX files?

Thank you!

How was the GPSMAP 66sr held or mounted during this recorded activity?

What page was displayed on the screen?

Was Battery Save Mode enabled?

I never put autostart, but I start myself, you can better control your route, in Autostart before starting your hike you have to delete the track that started as soon as the 66sr was started, because it creates parasitic traces and sometimes straight lines.

I record tracks while riding my motorcycle and the GPSr is hanging from my waist.
I usually display the map page when on the move.
Battery save mode is off.

By the way, I have never had this problem with my GPSMap 64s.

There may be little need to turn on autostart considering my use.
However, I believe that this trouble is unlikely to be due to the autostart function, as the autopause is also turned off.

Thank you for your prompt responses!

Multiple possibilities occur to me.

1. The GPSMAP 66sr may have froze, locked up or crashed during the trip, which would have caused the recording to stop, but since the recording resumed again about an hour later, seemingly without user intervention, I think we can dismiss this theory.

2. As you state 'the GPSMAP 66sr hangs from my waist' (presumably from a carabiner or similar attachment) while riding your motorcycle, and you leave the Map page active, with battery save disabled and presumably the keys unlocked, I suspect the (Enter) key may have been inadvertently pressed somehow at the time the recording paused, which opens 'Remote Recording Controls' that can pause and restart the activity recording directly from the Map page. About an hour later, I suspect either the (Enter) or (Quit) buttons were again bumped and this restarted (or resumed) the activity recording from that point, creating the activity recording 'Interruption' you observed.

Oh, wow! Remote Recording Controls!
I didn't know such a function existed. I think this is probably the cause. Thanks!
I have seen "Start" or "Stop" displayed several times.

There are two solutions that could be taken?
1. Use the button lock function
2. Do not display the map page while moving.

However, while this may be a useful feature, I don't think it is an excellent user interface.
I think it would be better to make the Enter key require a long press, etc.

Anyway, my problem seems to be solved. Thank you for the prompt reply.

For my use, I also do not find this feature useful.

Also, we always recommend not having the Map page open unless you are actively looking at it.

Battery Save Mode and Button Lock help conserve battery power and reduce unwanted button presses.
