GPSMAP 65s Not Receiving L5 Block III Satellites [Bug 22]

Just received new GPSMAP 65s running 4.00 software. For satellites PRN 06 & 24 receiving L5 signal (these are Block IIF vehicles that support L5). Satellites 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 19 have no L5 signal. Satellites 11 & 14 are listed as Block III that supports L5 signals. Has anyone else seen this problem?

I believe it was fixed on fw 4.40. Update your device with garmin express.

Hello, was your L5 problem solved after update? My GPSMAP 66sr displays an L5 signal for only PRN 4. PRNs 11,14, 18, 23, and the latest Block III, PRN 28 do not display an L5 signal! Noticed this fault? since June 2022. I do receive L5 for Block IIF satellites and Galileo satellites. I have latest update 5.70 for GPS 66sr. I assume that more L5 signals available means better reception/accuracy. I do not have an android phone (with GpsTest app) to compare with.

Just checked our 66sr v570 and we are seeing GPS L5 signals for PRN 06, 24 and 25.

Our GPSMAP 65 is also seeing the same satellites.

Is your CPE shown as current in Setup > About on the 66sr?

Thanks for asking about my CPE status. I looked in the About page for the first time. The status was: Missing. In the 66sr GPS folder there was no CPE.BIN file, only a nvmem file. I downloaded a CPE.BIN file from an old post on the 66sr discussion Forum (zip file provided by GPSrChive (CPE 221129.zip)). Question: where did he get it? I then downloaded the unzipped file to the 66sr GPS folder. I then connected 66sr to my computer and synched many times with Garmin Express. CPE. BIN file never changed or updated (to my knowledge). I then installed Garmin Connect on my cell phone. Then Bluetooth paired the cell phone and 66sr together. Wonder of wonder the CPE.BIN file updated (the date of the file changed to the current date and the file size increased from 251kB to 286kB). I then took an outdoor reading. The GPS satellite page was populated as soon as I could click to it. Same for the Galileo and Glonass pages. However, the CPE.BIN file appears to have no bearing on the Block III satellites L5 signal bars appearing on the 66sr GPS satellite page. See screenshots attached. I still see only an L5 signal bar for the PRN 4 Block III satellite, none for the other 5 satellites. Question: do the Garmin units require a "message" on the L5 signal before they will display an L5 signal bar on the satellite page? Something must be different between PRN 4 and the other 5 PRNs.

It appears that the new Garmin GPSMAP 67 can receive and display the latest L5 Block III satellites and their L5 signal bars! In the GPSrChive blog for the 67, under the topic "Poor Accuracy? [Bug 8], three posts contain one screen shot and two photos which display four Block III satellites (prns 11, 28, 18, and 23) and their L5 signal bars. Thus, the L5 signals must be set healthy for these satellites. So, why can't the 65 and 66sr units display the L5 signal bars?

We have sent an inquiry to Garmin regarding your observations. We now await their response.
