BTW, your GPSMAP 66 'Special Software' stopped working many firmware version back. Any chance you can update it to not only work with current GPSMAP 66s/st, but also the 66sr and 66i?
I have one updated for current firmware versions. The other devices I haven’t looked at, but maybe a possibility now that I’m into it. Tested 66st myself with fw 10.20.

Also, virustotal is quite kind on the exe file. it does get some detections, but not for any known name virus checkers.

This patch was made by "xArtx"

He also points out this:
THIS PROGRAM IS SUPPLIED "AS IS" WITH NO GUARANTEE. Long story short... Use it at your own risk!
The use of this, or any other firmware patcher will probably void your manufacturer warranty.
This program is for just changing the GPS startup logo splash screen graphic
This program is for the Garmin GPSMAP 66s, and 66st. It has been well tested with a 66st device.
It's purpose is to replace the GPS startup logo splash screen graphic with a user supplied image,
and optionally replace a test image that normally appears in the device test/diagnostic mode.

This program requires a firmware update file for the GPSMAP 66 present in the program directory.
The firmware file must follow the naming convention: GPSMAP66_WebUpdater__xxxx.gcd, where the
"xxxx" represents the firmware version. For example, this update was mainly tested with version
10.20, and the update file for version 10.20 should be named: GPSMAP66_WebUpdater__1020.gcd.
Note that there must be two underscore characters before the "1020" in this file name.
There is no way I am going to screw my manufacturer warranty just to change my splash screen.....

Thank you Art!

Tested without issue on GPSMAP 66s/st, looking forward to versions for the 66i and 66sr!

There are very few GPSMAP 66s/st units still within the warranty period!

I think it's prudent to avoid the use of hack software written by people like me :D
If it's any assurance, this is as old as GPSMAP66 device firmware 2.10 (2018), and no problems yet.
I'm still hesitant to support a device that I can't test first hand (GPSMAP 66i for example).

Version 10 is almost completed:
- Restored support for all older device firmware versions back to version 2.10.
- Restored and tested the firmware version spoofer functionality with version 10.20.
- Small code and appearance fixes to program and interface.
- Added support for device firmware file naming, as downloaded from GPSrChive.com:
"GPSMAP 66 B3028 10xx.gcd" so no longer need to rename downloaded firmware files.

I'll just put it here when ready.

It turns out version 10 works with 66sr and 66i as well now. Thanks GPSrChive for testing this.

I guess, this is not possible on Montana 700 series due encrypted firmware?

I didn’t believe you. It’s the first I’ve seen it.
Well there’s the beginning of the end for this sort of thing :D

I just didn’t believe that it would be encrypted.... it’s been more than 20 years and they haven’t done it.
Yes that would make this sort of thing extremely difficult.
