GPSMAP 66s/st Firmware 10.20

We are all very fortunate that the device does not attempt installation, as the 10.20 firmware file is nearly 150% large than the 10.10 version. Seems quite clear something went very wrong when this update was compiled and Garmin did not catch it before publishing.

We will have to wait and see if they upload a new 10.20 GCD or skip ahead to version 10.30.

Just a thought. Why is the update 10.20 still available on Garmin Express? Why hasn't Garmin removed it?

Because they threw it up on the server as they were walking out the door on Friday and they do not work weekends???

The updater still wants to deliver 9.60 here, and 10.20 is a broken link here.
I’d like to try to pull the 10.20 GCD apart.

Hello from 54° N 11° O - roundabout

i tryed also to install 10.2 from Gramin - Express after recognizing the Link to 10.2 on gpsrchive does not work.

Same happened on my Side - Express said - 10.2 is installed - GPS said still 10.10 .

I´ve tried to load the 10.2 File ( still on my Computer downloaded by Garmin-Express ) in the RGN-Program.
( Forced Firmware Install )

RGN does not show the HardwareID of the 66s - so Garmin´s 10.20 seems to be faulty - and the GPS recognize it because of the missing ID for verify ?
Firmware found on ( local-FileSystem from my Laptop - Hint for You to find it on Your Computer if You need it )

Same situation here. After Garmin Express update (10.20) device boots normally without update and fw is still 9.90. New gupdate.gcd is 27.6 MB (old one 19.2 MB).t

BTW, your GPSMAP 66 'Special Software' stopped working many firmware version back. Any chance you can update it to not only work with current GPSMAP 66s/st, but also the 66sr and 66i?

You are correct, the GPSMAP 66s/st Firmware 10.20 GCD file is corrupted! We are lucky it does not install on our devices or they would likely become bricked!

Exactly correct. Seems a large amount of extra 'unknown' code somehow made its way into the compiler at Garmin before they published the 10.20 firmware GCD file. We have no idea what that extra code is, but it certainly isn't supposed to be in there!
