How so???
I tried using GMapTool and cgpsmapper to split the .img file with the option Create for Mapsource and then I installed it. The result in Basecamp, however, was simply horrible and the map was not useable.
I have been doing "img split" for years on topo maps that I can only download as an "img" file and not as a install version.

Once you have it installed on Mapsource , Basecamp or GSAK you can pick the tiles you need and compile a "img" file to your needs and install it on your GPS.

Please give more details as to
simply horrible and the map was not useable
Post some screen shots of what you are talking about.

Plus I gave you a link to a smaller version of the topo canada from a different link did you try that "img" file on your GPS???

Just tested OpenTopoMap Canada.
I split the "img" and install it on my Laptop.
Then mark some tiles to the size of 3.25GB.
Then sent it to my Etrex 22x with a 4GB SD card.
All went with no problems at all.
The map looks good
As I do not know what areas you need in the way of an "img" file and map tiles you do not need to keep it under 4GB in size you will have to test for yourself.

@ asprin624

What settings are you using in GmapTool to split map for Mapsource?

We kerp getting error messages regardless of options selected.

If you want to write a short tutorial we can add it to the wiki!

After all is OK with the map I then move it to my "D" where I have all my Topo maps.
I use the tool JaVaWa GMTK v4.1 to do the move.

This way I keep my c: free......

I used your steps and the results were better this time. I now have an useable map in Basecamp, a bit deformed but useable (see images). I also used Basecamp to install the complete map of Canada to the GPS and it fits (4 272 422 912 bytes). I now have the latest version of the map on my GPS, thank you. Hopefully, the map for Canada will be corrected on the web site that I am using and I will not have to go through this again.

When I have a moment, I will try the smaller version of the map you suggested.

Thanks again.

Just to report that this issue has been resolved a while ago by the map author.
The new file size is 3,27Gb, well below the 4Gb limit.
