GPSMAP 66s: Data request failed. Check connection, and try again.

Unread post by smukec »

Hi,

I get this error every time I turn on device:
"Data request failed. Check connection, and try again."

Even if BT and WiFi is turned on and connected as you see on image.

Anyone knows why?

thank you

How was your Wi-Fi configured on your GPSMAP 66s?

What firmware version is your GPSMAP 66s running?

Latest firmware, version 7.60. Gpsmap 66s is new, 4 days old.
I am on vacation right now and I am using hotspot from my phone for Wi-Fi connection (4G data).
Everything works fine, birdseye maps dowloads, synchronization,... I am just getting those errors... so I really don't know what is even wrong.

I added my phone hotspot WiFi connection in wifi settings on GPSMAP 66s. And I paired my phone with gpsmap 66s with BT connection. I noticed then I can add wifi connection in garmin express too but it doesn't help.

Any idea?

What happens when ONLY Wi-Fi is enabled?

When ONLY Bluetooth is enabled?

When Neither Wi-Fi or Bluetooth are enabled?

I assume you had to update it to 7.60 when you received it?

Being only "4 days old", you should not have an immense amount of customization involved just yet.

Might I suggest a Master Reset and retest after?

How do I Master Reset my GPSMAP 66?
  • Power the GPSMAP 66 off.
  • Press and hold the (Page) and (Enter) buttons simultaneously.
  • Press and release the (Power) button.
  • The GPSMAP 66 will begin the boot process.
  • Release the (Page) and (Enter) buttons after the backlight illuminates.
  • When prompted "Erase all user data?", select [Erase].

It is a problem with Geocaching. I found out that only one list in Geocache Lists is always "Not Synced". If I chose "Unregister Device" and reboot gpsmap 66s then I don't get error anymore. Then I deleted those not synced list from geocaching.com and register device again and same problem. Each time I register gpsmap 66s to geocaching I get this error.

Then I clear GCLive data in Setup > Geocaching > Geocaching Live > Remove Live Data
But I can still see geocaches, I gues those which were transfered with garmin expres. How can I delete those geocaches? In which folder are they?

Ok I did a master reset now. I found out Geocaching is obviously buggy. Can you tell me please what is a best practice to use it?

This may be a temporary Geocaching server issue...

Anyone else seeing any issues with GC Lists right now?
