Hello,
like in eTrex Vista/Legend HCx I like to view map oriented to north on overview zoom and map oriented to compass/movement direction in detailed zoom level. In eTrex there is a setting for it.
Is it also possible in GPSMAP? Have I missed some setting?
It's very uncomfortable if north is always at a different position then wanting to roughly orientate oneself.
Regards

Re: Map orientation depending on zoom level?
In eTrex Legend:
1. When the map is on screen
2. Open menu by button
3. Map settings (selected by default when opening menu)
4. First two settings: "orientation" and "below"
(wording may be actually different, English translation by me)
My settings are: orientation to driving direction below 200m

Re: Map orientation depending on zoom level?
Very handy!
Unfortunately those configuration options were lost long ago, with the introduction of the eTrex x0 series, and pretty much every outdoor device since. Now we only have Auto zoom 'On/Off' to choose from, however on some devices it has been reported that you can 'teach them' your preferred zoom setting when moving and when stationary while 'Auto' is enabled by simply adjusting the map zoom on the fly, then the device should use the last zoom value you chose when moving and when stationary. I do not think this is true for all devices, but I have read where some users have had success.
