That video will help persuade Garmin to dig deeper.

Video has been added to Bug 73 description on Common Issue page and sent to Garmin.
They will likely ask which maps were installed/enabled when this behavior occurs. Can you please list them here?
Thank You!

Re: Search for cities not working [Bug 73] [Crash 8]
Regarding maps:
AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH:
I do not remember which maps were active at the time of the initial crash, but I had the latest City Navigator Europe and some OSM-maps (frikart.no, freizeitkarte-osm.de, garmin.openstreetmap.nl) on the SD-card. No maps were installed onto the device memory. I probably had the Worldwide DEM Basemap and TopoActive Europe maps disabled, though.
I had used the spelled city search successfully a number of times in the days before the initial crash.
FOREVER AFTER THE CRASH:
Doesn't matter which maps I have activated (World DEM Basemap, CN Europe or OSM-variants), the result is always the spinning icon. I have also tried having different maps enabled at the same time.

Hangman,
Can this be duplicated with NO microSD card in the device?

See attached video of recreating bug \ crash. Is reproducible > 50% of the time. This is with the Worldwide DEM Basemap NR enabled only.
https://youtu.be/kBrqAcMoGl8
Failure seems to be most reproducible when scrolling off the top of the list of found cities.
This video was recorded with an SD card installed holding a number of maps but all disabled.
When the SD card is removed, the user Interface is a lot more responsive and less cities are displayed, but the Bug/Crash still occurs in the same manner

WOW, I think you nailed it, gpsrchive!
With the SD card removed, the 66st behaves just as it should!
Stupid me, why didn't I simply try and remove the SD? Grrr!
Congrats, gpsrchive!

Re: Search for cities not working [Bug 73] [Crash 8]
I see that my previous reply was enthusiastic, hehe. We are onto something here, even though we have no solution yet.
I've played around for a bit trying to reproduce robert's crashes, but I am unable to.
I suggest we start looking at differences between robert's device and my device. Since my one and only city-search-crash, I have performed a "factory reset" twice. Maybe we can get closer to finding the problem if you, robert, is willing to do a factory reset? I am willing to do it over again if needed.
To perform a master reset:
Back up your tracklogs/ routes/ profiles/ settings. Remove SD card.
Ensure the device is powered off.
Press and hold Page and Enter simultaneously.
Power on the GPS while continuing to press both buttons.
Release the Power button when Garmin appears on the screen.
Release the other buttons once the Do you really want to erase all user data? ...
Select Yes.
Start hunting for the bug before going through a full new setup.
