City Navigator Europe NT discontinued

Unread post by ConiKost »

Garmin send an email today and announced, that City Navigator Europe NT will be immediately discontinued.

Version 2025.10 is the last NT version for Europe. This is very suprising, as even the modern Montana 7x0 uses NT maps and basically lifetime maps have been now removed.

Well, they could provide the Montana 7x0i users with NTU maps instead. I hope Garmin didn't oversee this (American users don't have this problem, their maps are still NT) .

I think this is really bad, instead of switching from *NT* to *NTU* for affected devices just to say, no more map updates. This is really not a good move. I have zero hopes, that Garmin will do something for Montana 7x0i.

I do wonder, if this is a violation of their lifetime policy [1]. But on the other side, I cannot really see, if Garmin stated someware lifetime for Montana 7x0i series. This could be their loophole.
If you purchase a nüMaps Lifetime subscription (sold separately) or if your Garmin product comes bundled with a nüMaps Lifetime or other lifetime map subscription, you will receive map data updates when and as such updates are made available on Garmin.com during the useful life of 1 compatible Garmin product or as long as Garmin receives map data from a third party supplier, whichever is shorter. A product’s “useful life” means the period during which the product (a) has sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data and (b) is capable of operating as intended without major repairs.
This cerently does not apply for Montana 7x0i, which is still being officially sold by Garmin.

According to Garmin, owners of the Montana 700i and 750i will get the NTU version in the future.
This should also apply to the (uncommon) situation in which a user has purchased both the City Navigator NT on DVD and the lifetime for an NTU-compatible outdoor device.

That's great news. Thank you. I really wish, that Garmin would have communicated this among with the discontinued email.

Yea, a bugger
I spoke with Garmin Customer support about another issue a week or so ago and complained about this fact that we buy a ‘Lifetime’ update package but it is not.

Their answer is ‘ We mean Lifetime of the product’ and ‘Now that product is End of Life’

So basically a con, with small print.

I was checking this thread given I have an old Nuvi 3597 with this lifetime maps thing. When I check this pdf
Spoiler
it stated it is compatible with NTU and when I double checked the maps on the device, they are also NTU.
Can't quite see a reason to garmin to no provide more recent devices with NTU maps...
