Yes, well, unfortunately it seems Garmin have become very sloppy with their new product promotional material and specifications.

The specifications and other information you see here at GPSrChive can be trusted to be correct.

GPSMAP 66sr accuracy almost consistently 1.8m
GPSMAP67i accuracy at the same location 3.4m (the best value I saw this day was 2.4m)

Is the newer GPS worse or does it estimate accuracy with a different algorithm?

I also noticed, that garmin didn't really updated properly the manual for the gpsmap 67. They forgot to mention the Beidou satellite system in the manual under "Introduction->acquiring satellites signals-> GPS and other Satellites Systems".

Concerning Galileo, they modified the configuration in multi-band mode, we see that there are those which are not in multi-band mode, whereas on the 66sr it did not appear.
They can put the Beidou on the 66sr since it was there on the first releases, it's software only.

Thank you, we were hoping to see if the CPE was 'current'. Is it? Was it current at time of photos?

We are going to try and duplicate.
