@mimichris - please report to Garmin, so they will get informed that users care about that
instructions: GPSMAP 65 > Common Issues > Error Reporting
You may write them in your local language.
Meanwhile I also think of a defect of the Sony chip - considering release dates, looks like Garmin is pilot customer of it. In best case this can be fixed by firmware update. Unfortunately Garmin doesn't release details. They act like they wouldn't know the issue.

Interesting.
I do not find that chip in these GPSMAP 65 FCC photos:
Can you?

Re: GPSMAP65s - Galileo Satellites Flashing [Bug 8]
Just checked a recording of mine: 11 GPS (4 of them dualband) + 1 Galileo + 0 Glonass were received. With this it can already be very accurate.mimichris wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 8:27 am After a fairly long time of operation, the 65s still has the E5a satellites flashing and those there, not the GPS satellites and nor the Glonass, I recorded a waypoint in these conditions, the waypoint is exactly in its place at 50cm close, so the accuracy does not seem to be affected.

Re: GPSMAP65s - Galileo Satellites Flashing [Bug 8]
It's very small. I think Garmin uses the small version with lower power consumption.
Model Name CXD5610GF CXD5610GG
Package XFBGA-54Pin LFBGA-72Pin
External Dimensions (LWH) 3.2×3.7×0.5mm 7.0×8.0×1.4mm
Probably it's the light one in the upper circuit above the black chip.

Here is that photo with a scale for measuring. I do not find either size (3.2x3.7mm or 7.0x8.0mm) matching any of these. Please double check my work!
edit: I guess the little one at the top is close to those measurements.... Seems to be about 3.0x4.2mm.

I wrote to Garmin support and to Sony, but I have a doubt for Sony because it is difficult to find an email address corresponding to the GPS chips section.0x01 wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 4:54 pm @mimichris - please report to Garmin, so they will get informed that users care about that

Garmin sent me an email telling me that they took my request into account, but then .....

This is possible because it must be close to the heliocoidal antenna.gpsrchive wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 7:52 pm Here is that photo with a scale for measuring. I do not find either size (3.2x3.7mm or 7.0x8.0mm) matching any of these. Please double check my work!

I thought same, sizewise it could be mounted to the antenna. But there is a U.FL connector.mimichris wrote: ↑Mon May 10, 2021 8:35 amThis is possible because it must be close to the heliocoidal antenna.gpsrchive wrote: ↑Sat May 08, 2021 7:52 pm Here is that photo with a scale for measuring. Probably the chip is shielded below the fin and not visible on the straight from top picture?
Also the PCB is multilayer whereas the outer layers are used as ground shield - no way to trace the circuit from pictures.

I took a closer look, and there is nothing under that tab.
The IC in that area appears to be a BROADCOM BCM47755.

Re: GPSMAP65s - Galileo Satellites Flashing [Bug 8]
Hello,
Today I hiked 7.5Km and the Glonass satellites were absent from the whole hike, as if they did not exist. On the other hand, Galileo stopped flashing after about 1h30.
When I got home, I did a master reset and Glonass came back and Galileo is fixed and no longer flashing. In fact it took hours and hours of operation to acquire the Galileo satellites.
It was the same on a friend's Garmin 66sr, the Galileo satellites stopped flashing after hours of operation.
