"Power detected" on AMPS always forces main menu

Unread post by ConiKost »

You need a Montana 700 series in a AMPS mount, which is connected via relais to a power source.
This means, if you turn on ignition, Montana poweres on, if you turn off ignition, Montana 700 will turn off after 30 seconds.
This is fine and works as it should.

But If you have already a powered on Montana in AMPS mount and turn then ignition on, this will always force to switch to main menu, which is really anoying, as I would expect, that Montana stays, where it was before, if it was powered on.

Interesting, I don't see that with the powered suction mount, part No. (010-12881-00), which is a similar mount but powered by a USB plug, it just beeps when powered on if the unit is already on.

ConiKost, what do you have configured for each option in Setup > Profiles> Set Mount Profiles on your Montana 7x0?

I tried it. 700i powered on, on map page. Plug in rugged mount. No change, stays on map page, does not go to main menu. All mount preferences set to “no change.”

Yes, I suspect ConiKost may have a specific profile configured for the rugged mount that is not active when the device is inserted into the mount. In this scenario, the selected profile would be enabled, and the Main Menu would be displayed.

Yes, you are correct. I have a default profile for using Montana in my hands and a seperate AMPS profile. which is being used, when inserted into AMPS mount. The only difference between both profiles is being compass disabled and display auto rotation being disabled, both, in AMPS mount.

But it still doesn't make any sense, why this triggers the main menu always?

What happens if you change them to 'no change'?

Yes, in this case, it does not switch to main menu.

For clarity, ConiKost, when you have a specific profile configured for the powered mount, even if that profile is active when you insert device into same powered mount, the main menu still appears? What happens if you configure them for 'Use Last'?

Sorry for being so long quiet, but I took some time before I was able to test probably.

I have currently the following profiles:
a) AMPS (Auto)
b) AMPS (Motorrad)
c) Standard

Basically, both AMPS profiles are based on 'Standard', but have a few options changed, nothing special.

This are my settings for Setup -> Profiles -> Set Mount Profiles and I have tested as follows:

1)
Automotive Mount: No Change
Rugged Mount: No Change
Not Mounted: Standard
External Power Only: Standard

Current behavior: Montana starts in my hands with profile 'Standard' and when inserted into AMPS mount (powered), it beeps and does nothing further. Works as expected.
Expected behavior: Same as current behavior.

2)
Automotive Mount: AMPS (Auto)
Rugged Mount: AMPS (Motorrad)
Not Mounted: Standard
External Power Only: Standard

Current behavior: Montana starts in my hands with profile 'Standard' and when inserted into AMPS mount (powered), it beeps and switches to main menu. Profile 'AMPS (Motorrad)' is now active.
Expected behavior: It should not switch to main menu.

3)
Automotive Mount: Last Used
Rugged Mount: Last Used
Not Mounted: Standard
External Power Only: Standard

Current behavior: Montana starts in my hands with profile 'Standard' and when inserted into AMPS mount (powered), it beeps and switches to main menu. Profile 'Standard' is now active.
Expected behavior: It should not switch to main menu.

4)
Automotive Mount: AMPS (Auto)
Rugged Mount: AMPS (Motorrad)
Not Mounted: AMPS (Motorrad)
External Power Only: AMPS (Motorrad)

Current behavior: Montana starts in my hands with profile 'AMPS (Motorrad)' and when inserted into AMPS mount (powered), it beeps and switches to main menu. Profile 'AMPS (Motorrad)' is still active.
Expected behavior: It should not switch to main menu.

------------------

So as a conclusion, it seems, that Montana 700 series is always switching to main menu, even, if it's switching from the same profile to the same profile (again).
