Route Distance displayed is incorrect after scrolling the map [Bug 58]

Unread post by ConiKost »

If you load a preplaned route from BaseCamp on Montana 750i, and move the map, a wrong distance is shown.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Load route: Main menu -> Route Planer -> choose route
2) Choose "View Map"
3) The choosen route is now being chown, you could start with "Go". A distance of 261.5km is shown.
4) Move with your finger the map, it does not matter, in which direction.
5) Press left bottom the arrow to go back.
6) You are back the choosen route, which is shown again and you could start with "Go". But: A wrong distance of 144.6km is shown.

I guess, this is due some wrong RPE data handling in this edge case. The lower distance if wrong, while the initial distance is correct.

Using firmware 8.20.

Looks like it’s giving a straight line distance when you pan, then return. If you hit “Go” and then look at the trip computer, “Distance to Destination” is correct. I don’t know why it does that but at least for my test and assuming I do want to follow that route rather than just pan back and forth, the route and it’s actual distance are fine.

In my testing, the route distance displayed in the Info Box not only increases, but selecting the route and viewing the details page for that route also shows the new incorrect total route distance. Definitely something not quite right in there....

Re: Distance wrongly shown after map move

I did a short route, 8.4 miles.
Route planner
Route 002
View Map
Banner at top says 8.4 mi
Tap the banner, it says “On Road Information, Travel Distance 8.4 mi”
Return arrow then, Pan map, then hit return arrow
The banner will briefly briefly say 8.4 then 5.7 then stay at 8.4 mi.

Now start over but don’t tap the banner and return. Just View Map, pan the map and return.
It says Distance 5.7 mi in banner at top.
If I now tap the banner it says “Off Road Information” and “Travel Distance 5.7 mi” Off Road has usually meant point to point, not following roads. So, for whatever reason when you bring up a route to look at then pan the map it will give off road info rather than calculated route following the road.
Hit Go, it calculates route.
Tap bottom right menu button, then Active Route
Tap last direction for destination. It gives the total distance from the beginning as 8.38 mi. Or,
Trip computer icon- Distance to Dest. 8.38 mi

So far as I can discern, if you bring up a route and pan around the map it will retain the straight line distance but drop the calculated route. Once you hit Go or if you don’t pan the map because you just want to follow the route you created and saved, it retains the actual route distance and follows it. I am far from an expert by any means and defer to nearly anyone else, but unless I’m missing something, I don’t see how this brief distance change, which is fully described in the banner info, is an issue. I belabor this because I may not be seeing the issue described but I think I’ve replicated it a couple times.

Current release 8.40 not fixed. (Makes sense, as this was very shortly reported, so I guess, we will have to wait)
