Montana 7x0 Firmware Update 8.20 released 19FEB21.
Changes made from version 7.10 to 8.20:
  • Improved geocaching dashboard UI.
  • Improved track manager page UI.

  • Fixed potential shutdown issue when syncing Geocache Live data.
  • Fixed issue with weather forecast potentially showing the incorrect location.
  • Fixed issue when searching via postal code.
  • Fixed issue with toggling music controls.
  • Fixed missing Arabic, Farsi, and Polish characters on the keyboard.
  • Fixed issue when displaying three-digit speed limit signs.
  • Fixed issue when updating TOPO Active maps in Garmin Express.
  • Fixed issue where the weather location list would display duplicate locations.
  • Fixed issue with geocache proximity alarms.
  • Fixed tracking issue in expedition mode.
  • Fixed issue when trying to connect to a hidden SSID network.
  • Fixed issue when trying to connect to a password protected network.
  • Fixed RINEX logging.
This update is being released in stages via Garmin Express and OTA, and should be available to everyone soon.

Please report your observations here after installing and testing!

It seems, there is a new feature called "Map Sets" in 8.20.
You can group multiple maps as one 'Map Set', which can be enabled or disabled and will enable/disable all assigned maps from the choosen "Map Set". The map switcher on map view is also now different, as it lists all map sets instead of those images for BirdsEye, CN or Topo.

Yep! But there is still one problem left :-(
If I choose "CityNavigator" to enable, it also enables all of my OpenStreetMaps (Freizeitkarte). That's pretty annoying. I don't even have a clou, why this happens.

That sounds like Bug #20:

Unfortunately, Bug 20 has been around since the very beginning, and Garmin software engineers do not seem very motivated to correct it.

This is one of the more annoying issues with the Montana 7x0 that prevents the device from being as enjoyable to use as it could be.

The only real solution is to NOT load any OSM maps to the device, which, of course, Garmin have absolutely no obligation to support.

However, knowing that a majority of their customers will load OSM mapping, Garmin would be well advised to resolve this issue quickly....

The question is, how does the function handle the maps. How does it know, that CN is CN.
Is this something, which can be only fixed by Garmin or can be this maybe fixed somehow by recreating a OSM map.

The issue is 100% how the Montana 7x0 Firmware identifies maps, and confuses third party maps with TopoActive and CItyNavigator maps...
