GPSMAP 66s Track Archive Error

Unread post by SImon »

Hi everyone,

I have a small but annoying issue with my GPSMAP66s. Every time I start it up I get a "Track Archive Error" message. Simple press of ENTER to dismiss, but it is still irritating me!

Firmware 3.40, I've never touched the settings around Archiving.

Any suggestions welcome!

Can you post a photo of the error message?

This may take a little doing to diagnose over the web, but we'll see what we can find.

OK, some basic testing:

If you are using a microSD card, remove and reboot the GPSr. (reboot may take awhile while database is rebuilt)

Did the warning go away?

If yes, stop and report results here.

If no change, proceed to next step.

Connect your GPSr to computer in Mass Storage Mode.

Find the Garmin/GPX directory on the GPSr and rename it to 'GPXBAK'.

Restart the GPSr. (reboot may take awhile while database is rebuilt)

Did the warning go away?

Thanks for the suggestions.

Removing the SD Card made no difference.

Renaming the GPX folder made no difference.

Interesting.

One more thing to try before more research is required:

Rename the GPXBAK to GPX again (make it as it was - Will likely have to delete new GPX folder first.)

Rename Garmin\SQL to 'SQLBAK'.

Reinstall microSD card.

Reboot device.

I have deployed the nuclear option and hard reset the unit. Unsurprisingly this has solved the problem. I will watch out for it happening again.

Thanks for help trying to avoid having to do this.

How do you feel about performing a Master Reset?

After you will have to reconfigure your profiles and settings again from factory default, so some time may be involved, depending on how many unique settings you have configured.

You will also need to back up any user data on the GPSr that you do not want to lose.

Then, remove the microSD card (just being extra careful here), and perform the following Master Reset procedure:
  • Power the GPSMAP 66 off.
  • Press and hold the (Page) and (Enter) buttons simultaneously.
  • Press and release the (Power) button.
  • The GPSMAP 66 will begin the boot process.
  • Release the (Page) and (Enter) buttons after backlight illuminates.
  • When prompted "Erase all user data?", select [Erase].
Reboot the GPSr again. Does the Error Message still display?

Reinstall the microSD card and reboot.

Any Error Messages?

I see you were performing the Master Reset already while I was composing the previous post!

Glad this resolved your issue.

I will inquire to see if I can learn more about what can cause this error message.
