This user states these same GPX/GGZ files take hours to load on their device, while they load on my GPSMAP 66 in minutes, so we can rule out the GPX/GGZ file as the problem.

We are still trying to determine what the hang up is, which is difficult when the issue is not easily duplicated on our hardware....
For the record, I do have the City Navigator and Topo 100k maps on my microSD cards. Also the total PQs data I'm loading is 84 PQs, comprising 167 files, and 346mb. This is the 2nd 66s that I've had this issue with (Garmin replaced it under warranty about 2 months ago). Currently have 3.0 firmware.

Can you email webmaster@gpsrchive.com and discuss sharing those PQ for testing?

Strange phenomena. Some devices load larger GPX/GGZ fast enough independent from where they're stored. Some load large files faster when stored on internal memory and some 'hang' for hours on both internal memory as SD card.
It seems that is rather HW dependent.
I returned my device some weeks ago and now ordered a new one from another store. See what happens. When this happens again, I'll bury my believe in the 66 (like I did with the Oregon 600 years ago) and stick to the 64.

Any news about the tests?

Thus far, only one user has supplied us with test files, and for us they are loading in ~7 minutes (GPX) or ~2 minutes (GGZ) from either the GPSr or microSD card. We are hoping for more test files soon....

That was me. Based upon those tests I've ordered a new one from a different shop.
If that device fails too, I'm finally dumping the 66 and go maybe for a 64sx, which is out since a week (hoping that it's only a HW upgraded 64.

We are also eagerly awaiting a 64x for testing purposes. 8^)

From what I've read, the 64sx is the 64s with preloaded TopoActive maps on it. The color of the unit has changed but from all the tech specs I've seen, it's the same internals.

The 64x internal are not the same as the previous generation GPSMAP 64 units.
