66st v7.20 Forgets Keyboard Language [Bug 124]

Unread post by 987 »

GPSMAP 66st, software 7.20.
Hi.
Could anyone try the following and see if it is possible to confirm.

Press the MARK button to create a waypoint.
Go to the name of the waypoint, press ENTER to open the keyboard. Now press MENU and change the keyboard language to a different language than English. (i use swedish most of the time).
Type a name into the waypoint name, save the waypoint.

Try a second waypoint in the same way, observe that the keyboard shows the language selected.

Power off the unit and then power it on again.
Now press the MARK button to create a new waypoint, select the name and press ENTER to edit the name. Note that the keyboard is English.
The keyboard language is not saved between power cycles, which i believe it should have been.
(it was saved in previous version of unit software)

Hi again.
I posted the observation about the keyboard language not being saved over power cycles to Garmin.
They answered that it was intended that the keyboard was set to the unit language on startup.
When i then explained that keyboard language is not set to unit language but always starts with English and that up to version 6.00 of the software it got saved properly on power cycles i got the response that i could post an "idea".

Luckily, in the past i have noticed that the worse responses i get, the quicker the issue is corrected.

We also tested multiple additional Garmin units today, and only the Oregon 7x0, RINO 75x, and eTrex Touch passed the test. Every other model (including GPSMAP 62/64/65/66sr/66i/78 and Montana 6x0/7x0 and eTrex 32x) failed to retain the user selected keyboard language over a power cycle, just the same as the GPSMAP 66s/st failed.

Actually i cannot see issues/bugs 123 and 124 on the common issues page, even after reloading the page.

Hi
with version firmware 7.60 (on GPSMAP 66st) the unit sets the keyboard language to the same as the unit language and this is now saved over the power cycle.
But if i change the keyboard and restart the unit, the keyboard language is not saved to the selected, instead it now defaults to the unit language.

This is a tiny improvement, but i still don't see the bug resolved.
It is much more convenient to have the two settings separated.
I use English as unit language (because i am used to this), but i type most in Swedish and a few other languages, since these are the countries i am in most often.
