Bad date on Vista.

Unread post by oldcrashtestdummy »

I have an Etrex Vista that is stuck on the last date that I turned it on before the software was no longer up to date. I have tried using Garmin Express and Garmin WebUpdater, but neither one will recognize the GPS unit. I have also tried WebUpdater on an old XP laptop also with no luck. I am connecting using a RS something cable to a USB cable.

The Vista would just live in my truck with the batteries removed for use in some emergency when I don't have my GPSMAP 66 or an iPhone or iPad in the vehicle (which is kind of never).

Should I give up on the Vista, or is there a secret way to update the software?

Is this just a plain eTrex Vista? Not a Vista H, Vista C, Vista Cx, or Vista HCx?

What is the current firmware version of your eTrex Vista?

It is just a plain Vista. Software is 3.90.

3.80 was the final firmware release for those units, while some were produced with 3.90, like yours, which was never published. There are no updates for that Vista. I will check mine later and report back.

For the vista hcx there was an update some time ago, software 3.20 (GPS 3.00), which indeed fixed the date issue.
