- Power on the Alpha XL.
- Open 'Settings > Device > About'.
- The device ID and software versions are displayed along with additional EULA and regulatory information.

Garmin Express
Device updates for your Alpha XL and VHF Dock can be installed using the
Garmin Express computer application.
- Connect the Alpha XL to your computer using a suitable USB cable.
- Open the Garmin Express application and choose your device from the menu.
- Select desired updates and follow the prompts as directed to complete installation.

Wireless Updates
Device updates for your Alpha XL and VHF Dock can also be loaded via Wi-Fi.
- Device must be powered on and have a strong Wi-Fi signal.
- Wi-Fi networks that require a sign-in, like those offered in many hotels or other public places are not supported.
- Available updates may take a while to be recognized and download.
- While downloading updates, under Wi-Fi settings you will see a line stating 'Downloading' and the percent complete.
- When the update download is complete, under Wi-Fi settings you will see a line stating 'Requires Restart'.
- After turning the device off and back on you should be prompted to begin the software installation.
